What is the difference between the Volcano Original and the Collapsible?
In reality, the two products are more alike than they are dissimilar. They both have 144 Square inch cooking surface. Both are great for almost any type of outdoor cooking. Both Propane Models use the same 19,500 BTU burner. The Volcano Original does not collapse like the the Collapsible. The Volcano Original has optional legs which can be handy if you don't have a table. The Volcano Original has adjustment screws around the top, you can more easily fit a 10" Dutch oven The Volcano Collapsible comes with a carrying case, the original does not. Either model of the Volcano Collapsible comes with the deflector plate, only the Volcano original with propane comes with the deflector plate. So, if you are not going to be carrying your Volcano around, you have a big truck, or you don't really want to use a table, the Volcano Original might be just the ticket. If not, choose the Volcano Collapsible.
How Come I see Volcano 2 or II on other sites
This is a very common question. The Volcano II name was dropped because we felt that that, in the development of the product, it had become more than just the Volcano 2. The Volcano Collapsible is now CSA Blue Star Certified, and we have made many changes since that model. Some of them are: Insulation under the bottom pan to make it even MORE table top safe, We've changed the Vent mechanism so that you HAVE to have the Vents fully open in order to use the propane attachment, We have modified the burner so that no adjustment is needed and a myriad others. So, if your Volcano came in a box that says Volcano II on it, it is not the most current model.
What is the burner BTU Rating
The Burner is rated at 19,500 BTU's as per the CSA certification.

What is the MAXIMUM Amount of Briquettes?
The maximum number of briquettes is 24. Using more than that could damage your Volcano and will void your warranty. How can we tell if you used more than 24 briquettes? The paint on the bottom of the Volcano will burn in a nice charred circle.
How much wood can I use?
The Volcano should not be used as a fire pit. Small amounts of wood should be used. The amount of wood will vary depending on the type and purpose of use. A safe rule of thumb is to avoid flames that are higher than a few inches above the rim of the Volcano. If you are cooking, hardwood is better as it lasts longer. Because wood burns quickly, cooking with wood can be a challenge, but with a little practice, it can be a great way to go. Keep in mind, a big fire will produce a lot of heat and will damage the paint, which is not covered under our warranty.
What size propane bottle can I use?
The Volcano comes ready to hook up to the common 20lb cylinders. If you purchase the Propane Valve Adapter, you can use almost any size bottle.
Can you use a pressure cooker with the Volcano?
Absolutely. We have seen it effectively used with both the 20lb bottles and the 1lb bottles. Sharon, from Simply Canning, uses the Volcano often. The Volcano is especially great for canning if you live somewhere that has HOT summers.. No need to heat up your house.. Use the Volcano on the back porch.
How much weight will the Volcano hold?
The Volcano can safely hold up to 250 lbs. We have seen more, but we don't recommend it. Don't use it as a jack for your F350. Don't ask us how we know.

What if my Volcano jams and won't open?
Occasionally we have seen that the Volcano shifts out of alignment during the shipping process. This is generally easily fixed by running a few open/close cycles. First, inspect your stove for any major dents. If it was damaged in shipping, and you purchased it from us, please give us a call. If you did not purchase from us, please call the vendor. If it is not damaged, then try to collapse it again. Using two hands on the center of the bail handle, give a very sharp, strong tug directly up. Avoid touching the body of the stove or the legs while opening. If that does not work, collapse the stove as best you can. Then turn the stove on its side and slowly and evenly pull the stove out of the collapsed position. Once open, collapse and cycle a few more times. If that does not work, collapse the Volcano as best as you can. Take off the handle. Turn it upside down and from about 12" up, drop it. (Grass or a rung. NOT concrete) Gently turn it over, re-attach the handle and give it a very sharp tug. If at this point, it does not open, please give us a call.
What is that white / greasy coating on my new Volcano?
The white coating that comes on every new Volcano is a harmless vegetable based coating that prevents rust. You can wipe the oil before your first use, or it will just burn off with the first use. It is tasteless, but you may smell a light oil smell with your initial use. When you are finished cooking with your Volcano, we suggest that you tap out the ashes, wipe it out with a paper towel coated with vegetable oil or spray the inside of you Volcano with Pam or similar to protect it until the next use.
What size of Dutch oven fits in the Volcano?
Almost any 12" or 10" Dutch oven works inside the Volcano. If you are using charcoal, you may use either a "Camp Style" Dutch oven (with legs) or a "Kitchen Style" without legs. If you are cooking with propane, you MUST use a "Camp Style" Dutch oven or your will burn your food. The Volcano Dutch oven is made to fit perfectly in the Volcano.
My Lodge Dutch oven tips in the grill
The Lodge Dutch oven is an incredible oven, but does tip a bit in the Volcano. To even the Lodge in the Volcano, simply rest one of the tabs on the underside of the oven on one of the support tabs of the Volcano. This should make it balance perfect.
Where is the Volcano made?
Most of our Volcano products are made in our factory in China. We have a very good relationship with our factory and demand only the highest quality products. This has allowed us to provide great products, at a reasonable price. Our Fire-Pit Grill and a few accessories are made in the USA.
What is the best way to store my grill?
The best way to store your grill is put flat, not on its side, without anything on top of it. Be sure to spray or wipe it down with a little oil so that it does not rust. If you live in a high humidity area, we suggest putting it into a large plastic garbage bag and then into the case, after you have oiled it.
Can I burn coal in the Volcano?
No. Some coal burns at around 1500 degrees, which is too hot for the Volcano. It will warp the bottom pan and void your warranty.

It is NOT recommended. If you do wash it out with water, make sure that you use pressurized air to dry everywhere, especially the vents and vent bar or they will rust.
How long will my propane bottle last?
At wide open a 1lb bottle of propane will last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The 20lb size will last about 22 hours at wide open. These numbers will, of course, be much larger if you are cooking on a low heat.
How do I clean my stove?
To clean your Volcano, never take it apart or wash it. Just remove the top and bottom grills, close the draft, hold firmly, turn upside down and shake out ashes (make sure the coals are completely burnt out or remove the hot coals from stove and either put them in water or bury). For Volcano Collapsible Stove owners…Collapse the stove by lifting the lower section, which also closes the vents. (Keep fingers away for legs while lifting.) Turn the stove upside down and shake. Turn the stove right side up and wipe out any remaining ash. Return the Volcano Collapsible Stove unit to operating position by lifting the carrying handle exposing the entire fire chamber and wipe out any remaining ash. We recommend after each use that all inside surfaces be wiped with a small amount of vegetable oil. This will help prevent rusting of the internal chambers. Store flat if possible.
